Linux is Ready(ish) for the Mainstream

Linux is ready for the desktop, both personal and enterprise – as long as you don’t have too many special requirements. If you start with the premise that Linux is not ready, you are overlooking the fact that most Linux Distros are more than capable of providing basic computing needs, such as email, web browsing etc. If you start with the premise that it is ready universally for the desktop, you’ll soon have the gamers, artists and designers telling you it isn’t due to lack of support for a whole range of software and hardware. Like many things in the computer world then, it comes down to an analysis of requirement.

Building a Blog with CodeIgniter Part 1

In this series of posts I am going to show you how to create a simple Blog application using the CodeIgniter MVC PHP framework.  I know that there are probably 100′s of tutorials like this already, but my reason for writing this series is two-fold: I am getting old and tend to forget useful coding techniques unless I write them down(!) and I hope it will demonstrate how efficient CodeIgniter is, at providing the foundations for a web application to be built quickly.
